Why Most Military Families Struggle to Adopt

If you’re in the military and you travel a lot, but you want to adopt a child, you’re probably wondering how the heck do I do this successfully with my really busy travel schedule? First of all, I want to say thank you for your service to this country is because of family like yours and the sacrifice that you make the families like mine can really enjoy feeling protected in this country.

So think you be in the military and traveling often for actually any family who travels a lot. And that’s going to their lifestyle, your biggest challenge with adoption is going to be completing your home study. Now, if you’ve watched my channel for any number of time, whether it’s just recently, or you’ve been watching my channel for a while, you know that I am not an advocate for getting your home study done as the very first thing you do when you start your adoption process. But you do have to get a home study done eventually. Okay, so what to do, you have to get your home study done so that you can adapt successfully. So the thing is that when you travel a lot, it’s basically impossible for you to get home study done, because the home study takes a few months to complete. Really, depending on how much effort you put into it, and how quickly you get stuff done. Background checks have to be done. The caseworker has to visit your home, you know, your home has to just be fit to have a child in the home. And you actually need a place of residence, you know, to be able to complete your home study. So traveling often is not going to be conducive for you to go to get your home study done like you need to so that you can adapt.

Okay, so my biggest advice when you’re traveling a lot is you basically have to give that up. And I would say stay put in a state for at least a year or two. So that way you can get your home study done, finalize your adoption, get all of that done, once you’ve adopted the kid, and you know you’re done. And it’s all legal, feel free to travel as often as you want. But if you’re really serious about growing your family through adoption, you’re going to have to understand that there is no way around that you cannot expect to be traveling a ton, like every few months, you’re moving here and moving there moving here moving there, you will not be able to adapt that way no matter how much you desire to do so. So again, my advice is stay put in one place for at least a year or two.

If you’re really serious about adoption, and then once the adoption is finalized, you know, you can take the child and you can you can travel as much as you want. The other thing to keep in mind is that if you start your home study in one state, and then you have to move forward have a reason while the home study process is going on, they’re gonna have to stop your home study, and then you’re gonna have to start the whole process all over again. So again, that’s why I say if you’re really serious about growing your family through adoption, you believe that this is the right time for you to do it, then you want to figure out a way to stay put in one state and reside there for a year or two so that you can make sure that your whole adoption process is done and completed before you start traveling again, okay.

So if you’re in the military, and you travel a lot, unfortunately, there’s really nothing else to do except to find a place to stay for a year or two so that you can successfully.
